Why Weevils Burrow

What is this?
    A bug?
And what is it doing on
my tree?
    It is sitting there—
And if it is sitting,
what are these strange letters?
    Those aren’t letters, or maybe
    they are, let me see—
They are letters there, it
has been biting them into the wood.
Well, I didn’t know bugs wrote,
    I wonder what he’s saying—is that
    an ‘M’, then that’s ‘M-O’…
“More of thee!” the cheeky thing!
And now where has it gone since
we’ve been here deciphering its
chicken scrap?
Look! It’s writing more, it must
burrow beneath the wood, I see an ‘M’,
    yes, another ‘O’, that says…
“More often…”
    “More often we’re evil!”
No! “Weevil”! It must be a weevil!
Weevils don’t write like this one does…
or burrow. He must be warning us
    to not be evil!
It’s giving us odds to bet on is what it’s doing…

Thanks for checking out my poem.

Did I tell you I wrote a novel? You can read it here for free, or get it for your e-reader on iBooks, Amazon or Kobo. Or you can just say you read the book, and donate five bucks down below. Go on.
