I Was

“I was,” someone had written
succinctly on the sidewalk, and
seeing my shadow I remembered
that I was something I now am not.
I was dead, and now am not.
I was blind, and now am not.
I was the enemy of my
father, and a slave to sin,
and now am not. “Follow
me,” the shadow says, and I say,
“No, the light I walk by
lies before me, so
you shall follow me.”

Thanks for checking out my poem.

Did I tell you I wrote a novel? You can read it here for free, or get it for your e-reader on iBooks, Amazon or Kobo. Or you can just say you read the book, and donate five bucks down below. Go on.
